This artwork features the short-snouted seahorse which can be found amongst rocks, seaweed and seagrass in shallow waters and river mouths in the Mediterranean Sea and the North Atlantic. They have even been found in the River Thames. Unusually, the female deposits her eggs in a brood pouch on the male’s stomach and it is the males that go through pregnancy and labour!
